Birth Control

It is important to understand the concept of birth control before trying it. This helps one to choose the effective method, aware of the effects and cost besides other informative details.

Birth control involves preventive ways, devices or procedures to deter a possible pregnancy from occuring. This is however not specific to those who are sexually active but also those women who need other health benefits in return. It is felt universally in many countries except in cases like religious restraints and beliefs.

There are various methods used in birth control, depending on the effectiveness. This includes hormonal and non-hormonal methods. One also has to consider the aim of practicing birth control in choosing an appropriate way. Such considerations may include preventing STDs and controlling periodic problems. You have to choose the one you are comfortable with, after you have enough information about its effectiveness and also side effects. It is advisable to consult a health officer to give guidance on which method to use.

Use of pills, for example, is a hormonal method used widely for various functions besides preventing pregnancy. According to Jones(2011) in his book "Beyond Birth Control", women get other health benefits from oral contraceptive pills(OCPs) rather than pregnancy prevention. In his study, using OCPs treats menstrual-related disorders and makes periods occur regularly where they occur irregularly. Those who use pills more often have higher chances of not getting pregnant than those who use them once whereby some end up getting pregnant.

Non-hormonal methods are also important in birth control. They include use of condoms (female and male condoms), withdrawal methods.
